THEATER: 5th Annual Got a Minute? Festival, Through Aug 29
Got A Minute?™ is a presentation of 60 sixty-second plays about overcoming adversity, which take the audience on a journey through every range of emotion. Surprise musical numbers add an uplifting tone to the evening’s already raucous festivities. Presented by The Eclectic Theatre Company and The Players Theater, the 2010 production of Got A Minute?™ marks five years of fundraising for cancer research. ENVIRONMENT: Mote Receives De-Oiled Turtles
Five sea turtles rescued from oily waters near Louisiana will arrive tomorrow afternoon, Aug. 24, at Mote Marine Laboratory—the last stop on their road to recovery and release. These turtles, which have been cleaned of oil from the Deepwater Horizon spill, are among 25 arriving Tuesday at Florida facilities for final care and eventual release in oil-free Florida waters. EXHIBITION: Native and Wild, Aug. 31-Sept. 24
ArtCenter Manatee is going native and wild with the work of three local painters and a photographer from California, in a show curated by Sarasota artist Julie Trigg. Julie is a first place winner in the National Pen Women Art Show, and her current works are oil paintings with subjects ranging from cows to philodendrons. Most of her paintings deal with the way she interprets life and/or events that affect us on a daily basis. Joining Julie are award-winning painters Jamie Friedli and Susan Klein and photographer Michael Sandiford. The exhibit opening will be hosted on September 2. Art Center Manatee, 209 9th St. W.
